Jeff's Rating System

This a Beta web service. It is slow. It has limited data available, though now expanded to include many national events in the past year. Please, wait for at least 10 seconds, preferably 20, after clicking "Calculate" before thinking something might be wrong. This a very CPU intensive process running on a slow machine. If you make your criteria too inclusive, you can get the script to run out of memory and die without telling you anything. It normally responds with an error message when that happens.

You will find a lot more data for epee results in 2000 and 2001 than for the other weapons. It's time consuming entering the data, I'm doing this mostly for my own entertainment, I'm an epee fencer, thus there is a lot of epee data.

Read about the rating system.

Select what kinds of events to include in the calculation:

Weapon This works.
Sex This works.
Types This does nothing yet.
Years This works. The year indicates the season that began that year. Obviously there is a gap!
Minimum Fencers This indicates the minimum number of fencers in a tournament for it to be included in the data. There is data for tournaments with as few as 1 person, but events with fewer than 15 tend to skew the results.
Maximum Fencers This indicates the maximum number of fencers in a tournament for it to be included in the data.
Minimum Tournaments This indicates the number of different tournaments a given fencer must show up in to be included in the data. A fencer who is only at one event does absolutely nothing to help calculate the relative strength of events. I prefer to have this set to 2 almost all the time.
Event Classifications This works fine. Select what types of events you like. Caveat! there are events from different eras, when the classification chart was different. And old A8 is now equal to an A4, and a new A4 didn't exist when I last worked on this. You may get the best results by including events of all classifications.
Debug This works fine. Its is cryptic, as debugging output tends to be.
