Jeff's Christmas ListEverything you need to know, you can find in my Amazon Wishlist: In fact, I think everything on this page is in that list (except tennis club membership), and sortable by priority. Last updated: December 7, 2008. Tennis club membership. In Richmond. Wislon K Factor KSix-One Tour Racquet. MusicCornettoOne day I'd like to be a cornetto player. You can read more about this crazy idea on my Pico page. I want a cornetto, and piles of books of songs and general information on the instrument. The focus of my interest is on medieval music. The best prices I have seen on Cornetti are from the Early Music Shop. (Click on "Brass" then "Cornetti".) They also have a used instrument section, which is great. For tons more links to places selling cornetti, just put "resin cornetto" into google and away you go. The non-resin ones are outrageously expensive. (Be aware that by "tons" I mean "a few reasonable ones among tons of unreasonable ones. Prepare to spend some quality time sifting though websites. You can't exactly swing by Cornetti-R-Us and pick up a $10 model like you can for the instrument listed below.) Last updated: November 6, 2008. RecorderAn endless list of desireable books about the recorder can be found by going to amazon.com and putting "medieval recorder" into the search box. Instruction, music to play, history of the instrument, and CDs of medieval (or early rennaisance) music are all nice ideas. CDs don't have to be just recorder music. Generally, any medieval music is good! I have a good Alto recorder and a passable Soprano recorder (both Yamaha resin, the former "simulated rosewood", the latter plain off-white), and I would love to have a Tenor recorder to add to the set. In the Key of C, and Baroque fingering. The Yamaha YRT-304B is a good choice. My local big music store has these in stock at a reasonable price (i.e. not much more expensive than buying online). Or maybe an actual Rosewood Recorder would be a better sounding addition. The Recorder From Zero, vol 2 is a good looking book, to follow up on vol 1 which I have. Membership in the American Recorder Society would be cool, too. LuteLutes are awesome. I want one! I don't have a clue how to play though, so don't spend $4000 just yet. A 6 course is fine to get started, but I might ultimately prefer a 7 or 8 course lute. The EMS 8 Course Lute w/accessories is a good choice. HistoryBritonI'm intersted in improving my understanding of medieval Briton, and tying my real ancestry in to my Anachronist hobby. Anything furthering this is a good thing, whether store bought or home made.MedievalBooks with big glossy pictures of medieval art are wonderful things. You can't go wrong buying me one! Any "book of hours" is a good thing, too. |
